Odisha Medical Student Found Dead In Hostel Room At AIIMS Patna, Probe Underway

The deceased was a first-year MD student at AIIMS Patna. Police found no suicide note from the hostel room. The body has been sent for the post-mortem examination.

A postgraduate student was found dead at AIIMS Patna on Saturday. Police said he was found lying on his bed in his hostel room. A probe has been launched to ascertain the cause of the student's death, which has triggered shock among the staff and teachers.

The deceased has been identified as Raghvendra Sahu, a first-year MD student at AIIMS Patna. He was a native of Odisha. Sushil Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Phulwarisharif, told news agency ANI that the deceased's room had remained locked since morning, and his phone was ringing unanswered.

"Today, on 19th July, around 1 pm Phulwarisharif PS received information that the doors of the hostel room of Yadvendra Shah, an MD 1st year student at AIIMS, had not opened since morning and that his phone was ringing inside. Police reached the spot and the door was opened in the presence of AIIMS Administration and the Magistrate. His body was found lying on the bed," the SDPO said.

Sahu was rushed to the emergency ward, but was declared brought dead by the doctors there.

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been called in to assist in the ongoing investigation. Police have also informed Sahu's family in Odisha.

"Further action is being taken. Inquest is being prepared. Further technical evidence will be collected," the SDPO added.

Police found no suicide note from Sahu's hostel room. "The body has been sent for the post-mortem examination, and the exact cause of the incident can only be known from its report,” he said.
