North India Shivers On Christmas, Himalayan States Receive Fresh Snow
On Christmas Day, North India experienced single-digit temperatures, with snowfall in Shimla and Manali. Srinagar's Dal Lake froze due to below -7 degrees Celsius temperatures.
As the fever for Christmas celebration begins on Wednesday, the minimum temperature across North Indian cities hovered in single digit. While the residents of the national capital woke up and saw a thin layer of fog on the Christmas Day, some prominent hill stations of North India witnessed snowfall on this eve.
The famous tourist cities of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla and Manali, received snowfall on the Christmas Day, fulfilling the wishes of visitors, who were longing to witness 'a snowy Christmas' this year. However, the fresh snowfall led to closure of over 220 roads and a few national highways in Himachal Pradesh. According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Manali will witness a minimum temperature as low as -1 degree Celsius on Wednesday, while the minimum temperature recorded on the Christmas day in Shimla was two degrees Celsius.
With the onset of Chillai Kalan in Jammu and Kashmir, the severe winter has intensified in the valley and fresh snowfalls were also observed in the hilly area. The minimum temperature in Srinagaar has dipped below -7 degrees Celsius and the iconic Dal Lake has got frozen.

While Pahalgam and Gulmarg in the Kashmir division resistered a minimum temperature of -8.4 degrees Celsius and -6.6 degress Celsius respectively, Jammu and Katra region of Jammu division recorded a minimum temperature of 7.1 degrees Celsius and 6.7 degrees Celsius respectively today.

Auli, the famous tourist spot of Uttrakhand, has also witnessed heavy snowfall on the Christmas eve. This led to more influx of tourists in the city. It is expected that the other parts of Uttrakhand will witness snowfall before the New Year.
While the IMD has forecast rain in some districts of Bihar in next 40 to 72 hours, it outlined that the weather in Uttar Pradesh will remain dry on 25 and 26 December.
It also stated that the maximum and the minumum temperature in Delhi will be around 22 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius respectively, with smog/shallow fog is likely to be witnessed in the evening/night.
