Senior bureaucrat Dharmendra will take charge as Chief Secretary in the Delhi government on September 1. He is currently working as the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh.
ABP had reported a day earlier that IAS Dharmendra would be the new Chief Secretary of Delhi. This was confirmed after the central government officially announced it on Saturday.
Who is IAS Dharmendra?
IAS Dharmendra is an officer of the 1989 batch of the All India Administrative Service. He is currently the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh. About two and a half years ago, when IAS Naresh Kumar was made the Chief Secretary of Delhi, he was also in the race for the post of Chief Secretary, but at that time he was sent to Arunachal Pradesh. While Naresh Kumar was made the Chief Secretary of Delhi.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Dharmendra is a B.Tech (Civil Engineer) degree holder from an academic point of view. Before being made the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, he was also the Chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council. He has worked in many positions in the Delhi government. In 2022, he was given the responsibility of Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh in April 2022 on the orders of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, who got extensions of tenure twice, did not get the benefit of service extension for the third time and his stint ended on August 31. Now IAS Dharmendra will take over as Chief Secretary. The appointment of senior bureaucrat Dharmendra as Chief Secretary came just before five months of the Delhi Assembly elections. Moreover, he will be taking over at a time when the Delhi government is at loggerheads with the Lieutenant Governor.
