A man facing trial for murder was found dead by suicide inside Tihar Jail, casting a grim shadow over the conditions within one of India’s most notorious prisons.
Ramesh Karmakar, an undertrial prisoner lodged in Jail No. 3, was discovered hanging in the hospital ward of the high-security complex on Monday morning. According to jail authorities, Karmakar was a resident of Delhi’s Anand Parbat area and had been awaiting trial in connection with a murder case.

The chilling discovery was made by prison staff during routine rounds. Officials immediately initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. "Further proceedings are underway," a Tihar Jail official confirmed.
