17 Dead In Massive Fire In Pearl Shop Near Hyderabad's Charminar, PM Announces Aid

Hyderabad Fire News: Seventeen people from the same family died after a devastating fire broke out at a pearl shop in Gulzar House near Hyderabad's Charminar on Sunday morning. The flames quickly engulfed the area, prompting a swift response from fire and rescue teams.

The Telangana Fire Disaster Response Emergency And Civil Defence released a list of victims. Eight children were among those killed in the fire. 

"Today, upon receiving information at 06:16 AM that a fire broke out in the G+2 building at Gulzar House Chowrasta, Charminar, the Moghalpura water tender and its crew rushed to the scene of the fire. The fire broke out on the Ground floor and spread to the upper floors. 23 Firefighting, Search & Rescue operations were carried out simultaneously," the fire department said.

Those who died have been identified as Prahlad (70 yrs), Munni (70 yrs), Rajendar modi (65), Sumitra (60 yrs), Hamey (7 yrs), Abhishek (31 yrs), Sheetal (35 yrs), Priyansh (4 yrs), Iraaj (2 yrs), Arushi (3 yrs), Rishabh (4 yrs), Pratham (1.5 yrs), Anuyan (3 yrs), Varsha (35 yrs), Pankaj (36 yrs), Rajini (32 yrs), and Iddu (4 yrs).

PM Modi Mourns Loss Of Lives In Hyderabad

Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the loss of lives in the fire tragedy. In a post on X, he said, "Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy in Hyderabad, Telangana. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon."

He announced a financial compensation of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF to the family members of the deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000, the prime minister announced.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said the fire broke out in a pearl shop owned by a family. "Their house was on the floor above the shop. The accident happened due to a short circuit. Many people have died in the accident. Some have been injured... I am not blaming anyone, but since Hyderabad is a rapidly developing city, the police, municipal, fire, and electricity departments should be strengthened."

"The fire departments here do not have enough equipment. The family told me that the fire tenders had insufficient equipment until 7:30 am. The state government must allocate more money to the fire department... After speaking to the Prime Minister, I will get the central government to provide financial assistance for the families of the deceased," the minister added.
