Kolkata Police Takes Action Against Miscreants Who Vandalised RG Kar Hospital During Midnight Protest

RG Kar Medical College News: Nine people were arrested for allegedly vandalizing the hospital and creating chaos during a 'peaceful protest' at RG Kar Medical and Hospital in Kolkata.

Kolkata Doctor Case: A total of nine people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the vandalism at RG Kar Medical and Hospital in Kolkata during the midnight protest on Wednesday. Protesters gathered at the hospital premises on Wednesday night to demand quick justice for the junior doctor who was raped and murdered at the facility on August 9. During this protest, which was intended to be peaceful, some "outsiders" allegedly stormed the hospital building and vandalised the facility.

Kolkata Police said 15 cops were involved in the incident.

The arrests came within hours of Trinamool Congress's Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee demanding action within 24 hours. "The hooliganism and vandalism at RG Kar tonight have exceeded all acceptable limits. As a public representative, I just spoke with @CPKolkata [Kolkata Commissioner of Police], urging him to ensure that every individual responsible for today’s violence is identified, held accountable, and made to face the law within the next 24 hours, regardless of their political affiliations," Abhishek Banerjee said in an X post after the attack at RG Kar MCH.

Doctors at RG Kar MCH described to ABP Ananda how the emergency ward was ransacked and valuable medicines were destroyed and stolen. The miscreants even tried to enter the MRI room and tried to destroy it. The doctors were terrified at the sudden attack and went into hiding within the building. They then sought intervention from the police and administration.

Several vehicles, a police outpost, and the CCTV monitoring station there were also damaged during the vandalism at RG Kar Hospital.

Medics and citizens gathered at the RG Kar MCH as well as other parts of the country to demand quick justice in the Kolkata doctor's rape and murder case. The call for a silent midnight protest for "freedom of women" was spread quickly through social media channels over the last two days.
