Kerala: Human Skull, Skeleton Parts Found In Fridge Of Abandoned House In Kochi, Probe Launched

The human remains were found wrapped in plastic covers and preserved separately inside the refrigerator. The house where they were found has been reportedly locked for 20 years.

A human skeleton and a skull were discovered in an abandoned house in Kerala's Ernakulam district on Monday, January 6. The human remains were found inside a refrigerator in the house, which has been reportedly locked for two decades. It is being investigated whether the remains are the result of a murder.

The unoccupied house is situated on a 12-acre private estate near Eruveli Palace Square in Kochi’s Chottanikkara. It belongs to a doctor Mangalassery Philip John, who resided in Kochi for numerous years, News 18 reported.

The remains were discovered while the Chottanikkara police were inspecting the house following complaints from locals regarding disturbances caused by anti-social elements at the locked property. The police was conducting an inspection at the request of a member of the panchayat ward.

It was then that a skeleton and a skull were discovered inside a refrigerator. The human remains were found wrapped in plastic covers and preserved separately inside the refrigerator.

As per a report by the India Today, the police believe the skull to be several years old. However, the exact age will only be determined after testing. During the search, there was no electricity connection in the house and the fridge where the skeletal remains were found didn not have a compressor.

The bones, including the spine, were found intact and the policehave confirmed that the skull belongs to a human. The police, led by the Chottanikkara SHO, are carrying out a detailed investigation at the spot to find out how the skull and the skeletal remains reached the house or who brought them and placed it in the refrigerator inside the house, News 18 reported.

The premises have also been sealed by the police. A team of forensic experts will also visit the property to conduct a thorough inspection. The owner of the house has also been contacted by the police, the report said.
