Debris Blocks Highway As Landslide Hits Kedarnath Route, Thousands Stranded

Debris and boulders block the road, and the National Highways Department is working to clear it.

A massive landslide near Munkatiya on the Sonprayag–Gaurikund stretch of the Kedarnath highway has brought traffic to a standstill. Heavy debris and boulders rolling down from the hillside have blocked the route, forcing authorities to halt the movement of thousands of pilgrims at Sonprayag.

Machines from the National Highways Department have been deployed to clear the debris from the road. Officials have confirmed that pilgrims will be allowed to proceed toward Kedarnath only after the highway is fully restored at Munkatiya.

Meanwhile, continuous rainfall is being reported along the pedestrian trek routes to Kedarnath, and landslides have occurred at multiple points along the highway, further complicating relief efforts.
