Bikes Float, Water Gushes Into Homes After Rains Batter Bengaluru: Watch

Water gushed into homes in several low-lying areas, including Sai Layout, and damaged properties including electronic items.

Karnataka Weather: Several roads in Bengaluru remain flooded after the city recorded its heaviest rainfall of the season on May 18. Bengaluru received about 40 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department said. Water gushed into homes in several low-lying areas, including Sai Layout, and damaged properties including electronic items.

Visuals on social media showed bikes floating on roads while parked vehicles were submerged on streets. Tree branches came down in some parts of the city, while people were seen wading through knee-deep water in some areas. Residents blamed clogged drains and claimed that the authorities ignored repeated complaints. Authorities had to shift affected families to safer places.

Heavy rains also led to huge traffic, especially from Anil Kumble Junction towards BRV Junction and from Belimatha Junction towards Binnymill.

Yellow Alert In Bengaluru

There seems to be no respite for the residents as of now, as the weather department has predicted more showers in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru and 22 other districts in Karnataka, effective until May 22.

Other than Bengaluru, a yellow alert has been sounded in Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, and Shivamogga districts.

In its daily bulletin on Sunday, IMD said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and gusty wind reaching speeds of upto 30-40 km ph is likely to occur at isolated places.

The weather department advised people in these districts to stay indoors, close windows and doors, and avoid travel if possible.
