UP Man Performs Living Wife's 'Shradh' To Marry Again, She Finds News Of Her 'Death' Online
Kannauj News: A man performed a 'shradh' for his living wife, and even posted about her 'death' on social media. The woman filed a police complaint against her husband who has since remarried.
Kannauj News: In a bizarre incident in Kannauj, a man allegedly performed 'shradh' of his living wife, posted her “death” on social media, and even invited relatives and friends to a ceremony to honour her memory. The woman, who was shocked to see herself being “mourned” online, has now filed a complaint with the Kannauj police, seeking action against her husband.
The incident occurred in the Bhawani Sarai locality in Madhav Nagar under the jurisdiction of the Talgram police station. The woman identified as Puja, who is from Kanpur, married Pawan Patel in 2009, and has two sons with him. While the marriage seemed file initially, she said in her complaint, her husband’s behaviour began to change drastically over time.
According to her complaint, the man brought another woman to their house a couple of years ago. "My husband brought a woman home and started living with her," she said, adding that while she had opposed Pawan did not pay any heed to her grievance. She later moved back to her maternal home in Kanpur with her two children.
'Took Children Home From Kanpur School'
The situation took a shocking turn recently when Pawan Patel posted on social media about his wife’s “death”, and even held a 'shradh (memorial ceremony)'. He reportedly shared images of the ceremony, garlanded his wife’s photograph at home, and invited people to attend the 13th-day ritual for his supposedly deceased wife. Furthermore, he is said to have secretly married the other woman after announcing his wife’s “passing".
The complainant also alleged that he took their two sons home without her knowledge, which led her to lodge a complaint with the police the next day.
She alleged in her complaint that Pawan took their two children from their school in Kanpur, and that she now fears for their safety. "If anything happens to my children, my husband will be fully responsible," she stated in her complaint.
Responding to the incident, Kannauj’s Additional Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar confirmed that a formal complaint has been lodged. He said that local police station has been directed to investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action.
