In A First, Four Jharkhand Districts To Get Rail Connectivity. Check Details

Officials stated that Gumla, Khunti, and Simdega will be connected via the Ranchi-Lohardaga rail line, while Chatra will be linked through the Ranchi-Hazaribagh rail route.

Indian Railways has announced plans to establish rail connectivity across four districts of Jharkhand—Khunti, Simdega, Gumla, and Chatra—for the first time since the independence of India after 75 years. These districts fall under the Ranchi division of Railways.

According to a report by India Today, the Railways Ministry confirmed that the preliminary survey for the project has been completed and submitted to the Railway Board for the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR). Officials stated that Gumla, Khunti, and Simdega will be connected via the Ranchi-Lohardaga rail line, while Chatra will be linked through the Ranchi-Hazaribagh rail route.

The Jharkhand Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (JRIDCL) conducted the survey, proposing a rail line of 55 km from Lohardaga to Gumla, 43 km from Gumla to Simdega, 20 km from Hatia to Khunti, and 42 km from Hazaribagh to Chatra.

The Union Cabinet approved three railway projects worth nearly  Rs 6,500 crore in August 2024. These include two new rail lines and one multi-tracking project spanning seven districts across four states: Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal.

In a similar update, the Indian Railways has announced the commencement of trial runs on the highly anticipated Katra-Reasi section of the prestigious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project on December 29. The trial run was conducted through Tunnel Number 1 of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project and the iconic Anji Khad Cable Bridge on Saturday.

The Katra-Reasi section, which spans about 18 kilometres, is an important segment of the USBRL project. This major progress in the infrastructural development of the Railways aims to enhance connectivity and encourage economic growth in the region.

As per the details from the railway officials, the newly launched section is technically advanced and equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, including advanced signaling systems, tunnels, and bridges designed to withstand challenging terrain and weather conditions.
