Tensions flared at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds after an unidentified person vandalised a Durga Puja pandal set up for the Devi Sharannavaratri celebrations. The incident occurred late on Thursday night following which the police took immediate action.

Upon receiving information, the Begambazar police rushed to the scene to assess the damage and begin an investigation. The idol, erected annually under the supervision of the Exhibition Society staff as part of the Navaratri festivities, was reportedly desecrated during the incident.

Talking to ANI, Vijay, Inspector of Begumbazar Police Station said, "Unidentified persons moved the hundi (donation box) aside at a Durga Puja pandal at Nampally Exhibition Grounds in Hyderabad's Begum Bazar police station limits, causing goddess Durga idol's hand to fall off. The organizers have filed a complaint, and police have registered a case. An investigation is underway."

On Thursday night, police were present until the completion of the Dandiya program. The miscreants reportedly cut the electricity supply and damaged CCTV cameras before vandalising the idol. Organizers believe the act was "well-planned", as reported by IANS. A guard had briefly left to use the washroom when the incident occurred, during which the idol's hand was broken, and its saree and other materials were thrown to the ground.

Local leaders and devotees have expressed outrage over the incident, calling for swift justice and urging everyone to remain calm while investigations continue.
