Mumbai: Maid’s WhatsApp Status On New Watch Exposes Rs 2.4 Lakh Theft From Former Employers

The Samta Nagar Police Station has registered a theft case and is currently searching for the accused housemaid.

A househelp was exposed for theft in Mumbai after she posted a WhatsApp status flaunting a new watch and outfit. Both items had gone missing from the couple's home where she worked, and they immediately recognised the stolen belongings from her status update.

The Samta Nagar Police Station has registered a theft case and is currently searching for Rupali Singh, the accused househelp. The police told TOI that Singh had been employed for two years by a 35-year-old man and his wife, who run an event management business in Kandivli, Mumbai. Her responsibilities included cleaning their 3BHK home and caring for their children. The couple also employed a cook.

Singh informed her employers on October 7 that she was leaving to go back to her hometown since her parents had filed for divorce. Later, on Saturday, the complainant's wife couldn't find the new saree she planned to wear for Dasera in the cupboard. To find out where the saree was, she then gave Singh a call.

CCTV Footage Reveals Househelp's Theft

The househelp informed her that she had ironed it and placed it in the cupboard. Despite looking everywhere in the house, the wife of the complainant locates it.

When she checked CCTV footage from 9 am on Oct 7, Singh was seen removing something from her house in bags. The complainant's wife was shocked to discover Singh's status update on Saturday while she was browsing her WhatsApp account.

The couple conducted a thorough search of their home and discovered that jewellery, a watch, sarees, sunglasses, denims, a shawl, a make-up kit, perfumes, a children's bag, and cash—amounting to a total value of Rs 2.4 lakh—were missing. The police are currently searching for the former housemaid.
