Ahead Of Himachal Day, CM Sukhu's Push For Tribal Welfare In Pangi Valley

Himachal Day: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister visited Pangi Valley, stressing inclusive development in tribal regions. He inaugurated infrastructure projects and allocated funds for community centers

Himachal Day 2025: Ahead of Himachal Day, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited the remote Pangi Valley in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district and reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to inclusive development — especially in underserved tribal regions. Speaking on Monday during the inauguration of several infrastructure projects, Sukhu made it clear that holistic progress across Himachal Pradesh, including its far-flung tribal areas, remains a top priority for his administration.

"Our government’s doors are always open for initiatives that uplift tribal communities," Sukhu said, addressing mediapersons during his visit. "We are dedicated to the welfare of every section of society, and there is no shortage of financial support for developmental schemes," he added

For the first time in history, the upcoming Himachal Day celebrations on April 15 will be hosted in the valley's headquarters, Killar — marking a symbolic and significant step toward acknowledging the region's importance in the state's growth story.

Financial Boosts And Infrastructure Projects

During his visit, CM Sukhu unveiled a slew of developmental initiatives amounting to several crores aimed at transforming the infrastructure landscape of the Pangi Valley.

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made several announcements for the welfare of the people. This included ₹25 lakh each allocated for the construction of women’s community centres in Dharwas and Lunj. An additional ₹10 lakh was earmarked for completing an ongoing project in Lunj and ₹1 lakh each was sanctioned for acquiring essential equipment for the three community centres, reported Hindustan Times.

These centres are expected to become vital spaces for women’s empowerment and community engagement in the region.

Clean Energy Push In Tribal Areas

In a significant push toward sustainable development, Sukhu encouraged locals to invest in solar power. He announced a 5% interest subsidy for solar energy projects ranging from 250 KW to 1 MW in tribal regions. Non-tribal areas will receive a 4% subsidy for similar projects, while projects exceeding 1 MW — regardless of location — will benefit from a 3% subsidy.

"This is an opportunity not just for clean energy but for economic self-reliance," Sukhu told the gathering, urging private landowners to consider investing in solar plants.

Laying the foundation stones for several key projects, the Chief Minister made clear his government's intent to deliver long-term solutions, not just temporary relief. This included ₹3.75 crore for residential quarters for the agriculture department, ₹1.5 crore each for additional classrooms at Government Senior Secondary Schools in Lunj and Mindhal, a ₹2.13 crore sub-market yard in Killar to support local farmers and traders, a new HPSEB office building, set to be constructed at a cost of ₹49.42 lakh, and health sub-centres in Rei and Hudan tehsils each with an investment of ₹1.99 crore.
