Heavy Rain Forecast In UP This Week, But Heatwave Days Likely To Be 'Above Normal' In May

Uttar Pradesh is likely to see rain this week, offering relief from the heat. However, the heatwave days in UP are likely to remain above normal.

UP Weather Today: Residents of Uttar Pradesh, who have been reeling under the sweltering heat for the past couple of weeks, could receive some relief soon. Strong winds and rain in some regions over the last few days have already brought down the temperature. However, several regions still continue to bake.

The first week of May is likely to see heavy rain. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a rain alert has been issued for most parts of the state for Thursday, May 1. There is a continued likelihood of rain with strong gusty winds until May 6.

The IMD said rain is likely in parts of both the western and eastern divisions on Thursday. Winds are expected to reach speeds of 25-35 km per hour. Thus, a dust storm warning has also been issued in eastern UP.

A new western disturbance will become active in the Himalayan region on May 2. This is likely to cause heavy rain soon. A yellow alert has been issued for heavy rain in several places in the state until 5 May, while rain is possible in one or two places on 6 May. The weather in the state will remain pleasant due to the rain, and people will get relief from the heat.

However, the number of heatwave days in May is likely to be above normal over many parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab,
Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and some parts of Gujarat, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and adjoining Telangana and north Karnataka.
