Gurugram: Rain Turns Rs 100 Cr Flats Into 'Sea-Facing' Apartments, Viral Videos Show Flooding In Luxury Area
Gurugram's posh Golf Course Road was flooded within thirty minutes on Wednesday following torrential rain. Several other parts of city witnessed severe waterlogging and traffic snarls due to rains.
Gurugram came to a standstill once again after torrential rain wreaked havoc in the district, leaving most neighbourhoods, including the posh ones, submerged under water. From inundated roads, waterlogged shops, houses, and markets to disrupted traffic movement, the rain battered Gurugram severely. Although the heavy rain provided some relief from the heat on Friday, its aftermath left the city crippled, bringing the crumbling urban infratructure into the spotlight, which the civic agencies have failed to maintain.
Over six hours of rain today caused waterlogging in all main markets of Old Gurugram, Narsingpur Chowk, National Highway-48, Mahavir Chowk, Railway Road, New Railway Road, HUDA Complex, and Sector 4-5 Road.
Water also entered several shops and houses, while vehicles, especially four-wheelers, got stuck in the middle of roads due to waterlogging. Many two-wheeler riders were seen wading through the flooded roads. Due to the accumulation of water, lcoals were forced to shut their shops at various markets, news agency IANS reported.
Gurugram's 'Sea-Facing' Luxury Apartments
On Wednesday, Gurugram received heavy rain for merely half an hour, which was enough to batter the upscale Golf Course Road, where flats as expensive as over Rs 100 crore were purchased by people. The Golf Course Road, home to the ultra-posh DLF Camellias and DLF Magnolias, was seen submerged underwater after the Wednesday rain. A video clip of the waterlogged road has gone viral on social media. It shows luxury cars struggling to navigate through the road amid heavy flooding, perched against the backdrop of the luxurious high-rise apartments.
Showing Gurugram's grim reality, former Meta employee Anushri Pawar shared the video on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote: "What should we call this? River Facing or Sea Facing? This is the condition of Roads in front of 100 crores Camillias and Magnolias in GolfCourseRoad in Gurgaon. This is the condition of roads in just half an hour rain and ppl here will still buy flats in 100 crores."

The video left the internet stunned as a viewer commented: "Some of the country's richest live here. But gated complexes, no matter how posh, can buy you a functional drainage system in Gurgaon."
"What we are seeing is nothing else but poor city infrastructure design lacking a rain drainage system," an X user wrote.
Another user commented, "After seeing Gurgaon turn into a water park every monsoon, swimming should be mandatory for corporate jobs in Gurgaon. If you can't swim to work, you're probably in the wrong city!"
Just last month, the Golf Course Road was submerged under waist-deep water following torrential rain. This Gurugram area has also made headlines for its luxurious appartments, four of which were sold for Rs 106.4 crore each, earlier this year. The buyers include Lenskart co-founder Peyush Bansal and Rahul Dhanuka, joint managing director of Dhanuka Agritech, among others.

What Will Happen If Rain Continues For Hours?: Local Congress Leader
Sanjay Siwan, a resident of Subhash Nagar, said: "It was unfortunate that the authorities had not learnt any lesson from the previous year when the rains had flooded several low-lying areas in the city not once but several times during the monsoon season.Waterlogging across the city clearly indicates that only paperwork has been done in the name of desilting of the drains and cleaning of sewers. The arrangements by the authorities to drain out rainwater have proved insufficient."
Pankaj Dawar, a local Congress leader, said: "When a few minutes of rain can wreak havoc in Gurugram, guess what would happen if the rain continues for hours? The district authorities still have some time to take vital steps to curb the repetition of the previous year's situation when the water remained accumulated in many localities for a long time leading to inconvenience to people."
