GPS Gone Wrong Again? Car Falls In Canal On Foggy Morning in UP's Bareilly

Purportedly following Google Maps directions, a car in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly plunged into a canal, prompting the rescue of all three passengers by police.

Following Google Maps allegedly resulted in another car accident in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly. The accident occurred while going from Kanpur to Pilibhit. The car fell into a canal reportedly while following directions from the Google Maps GPS. "We were checking for the route through the Maps app," said a passenger in the car.

Locals informed the police about the car falling into the canal. Izzat Nagar police reached the spot and rescued all three passengers in the car. The car fell into the Kalapur canal under the Izzat Nagar police station area.

Last month, in a similar incident a car drove off an under-construction bridge purportedly while following directions from Google Maps, resulting in three deaths. Police in Uttar Pradesh's Budaun registered a case against four engineers from the Public Works Department (PWD) and an unnamed official of Google Maps in connection with the deaths of three men.

The car plunged into the Ramganga River from a partially constructed bridge in the Dataganj Police Station area. The deceased were identified as Nitin and Ajit, both aged 30 and from Farrukhabad district, and Amit, 40, from Mainpuri district. The three were travelling from Noida to Faridpur in Bareilly to attend a wedding when the accident occurred near the Bareilly-Budaun border.

According to the police, the driver was misled by Google Maps, which directed them onto an unsafe route. Dataganj Police Station SHO Gaurav Bishnoi confirmed that an FIR has been filed against the four PWD engineers and some unnamed individuals. The regional officer of Google Maps is also under investigation, although his name has not yet been included in the FIR.
