Early Morning Showers In Delhi Bring Relief From Heat. Check Today's Weather Forecast

Delhi Weather Forecast: Heavy rain and strong winds hit Delhi early Sunday, bringing relief from the heat. IMD warns of 80–100 kmph gusts and advises residents to stay indoors and avoid travel.

Delhi Weather News: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds swept through the national capital early Sunday morning, offering much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave. The downpour brought pleasant weather across several parts of the city, delighting early risers with a cool and refreshing start to the day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) shared an update on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Moderate to intense rainfall with thunder and lightning is occurring over Delhi and NCR, with wind speeds reaching 80–100 kmph. Stay indoors and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary."

Earlier, the IMD had forecast rain and strong winds in the region and had advised farmers and residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions. "Partly cloudy sky. Very light rain/ thunderstorm/lightning accompanied by gusty winds (speed 30- 40 kmph) temporarily reaching 50 kmph during thunderstorm," an IMD bulletin forecasting the weather for June 15 read.

Delhi had been reeling under extreme heat for the last few days. The maximum temperature in Delhi on Saturday was recorded at 41.8°C, which was 1.9°C above normal. The minimum temperature was also high at 29.6°C. This was 1.6 °C above the normal temperature for the day. The humidity was also pretty high during the day, going up to 72%.

The maximum and minimum temperatures on Sunday are likely to hover around 40 and 28 degrees Celsius, respectively, the IMD said in its daily report on Saturday evening. The IMD in an X post on Sunday morning said: "Intense thunderstorms and rains are likely in parts of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Northwest Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, HimachalPradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Konkan, Western Ghats, Parts of East India and North-East India.

It further said moderate to intense scattered thunderstorms and rains are likely in east Maharashtra, east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand. Isolated light rains and thunderstorms could occur in West Bengal, North-East India, including Assam, and South India.
