Yellow Alert In Delhi, As National Capital Braces For Intense Heatwave Through Weekend

Delhi Weather News: Delhi is set to experience a heatwave from Thursday to Saturday, with temperatures expected to reach 41°C to 43°C. The IMD has issued a yellow alert, urging people to be cautious.

Delhi Heatwave Alert: Delhi is set to sizzle once again as a fresh wave of extreme heat makes its way into the capital. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city is expected to experience heatwave conditions from Thursday through Saturday, with daytime temperatures likely to hover between 41°C and 43°C.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert, urging residents to stay cautious and prepared as the heat intensifies. This level of warning signals a moderate level of risk, especially for vulnerable groups like the elderly, children, and individuals with chronic health conditions.

After a brief dip in temperature on Tuesday — when the mercury touched 39.9°C, still two degrees above the seasonal average — Delhi is now on track for another temperature spike. Monday had already marked the hottest day of the season so far, with the maximum temperature soaring to 41.3°C. The night brought little relief either, with the minimum temperature dipping to 20.9°C, two degrees below the usual for this time of the year.

Heatwave To Bake Delhi

Looking ahead, Wednesday's highs are projected to stay in the 40°C to 42°C range. IMD officials have indicated that the maximum temperature in Delhi-NCR could climb by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next five days. This means that the temperature would remain above seasonal norms. Between April 24 and 26, the heat is expected to peak, raising concerns about its impact on public health and daily life.

In a bulletin, the IMD advised people to limit their time outdoors, stay hydrated, and dress appropriately for the heat. Lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-coloured cotton clothes have been recommended, along with protective accessories like hats, umbrellas, or cloth coverings for the head.

Delhi already experienced a stretch of searing heat earlier this month — from April 7 to 9 — when temperatures stayed consistently above 40°C. Now, as another round of extreme weather approaches, residents are urged to take the warning seriously and make necessary precautions.
