Cloudburst Wreaks Havoc In Shimla’s Rampur, Vehicles Swept Away In Flash Floods: Video

The cloudburst resulted in widespread chaos, with several vehicles being swept away in the flash floods in Jagatkhana area. Relief and rescue efforts are underway at the site since Saturday night.

Himachal Pradesh's Shimla received heavy rain on Saturday evening, with reports of a cloudburst in the Rampur region during the night. The cloudburst caused flash floods in the region, leading to significant damage and disruption of life. 

The cloudburst resulted in widespread chaos, with several vehicles being swept away in the flash floods in Jagatkhana area near Rampur. Relief and rescue efforts have been ongoing at the site since Saturday night.

The weather took a dramatic turn in Shimla on Saturday evening as thunderstorms, lightning, and torrential rain hit the region. At approximately 6:00 PM, a sudden cloudburst was reported near Baggalt inJagatkhana area, Rampur. According to eyewitnesses, a massive amount of debris and water rushed down the slopes, destroying vehicles parked along the area and causing extensive damage.

Initial estimates suggest that nearly 10 vehicles might have been washed away, though an exact count is yet to be confirmed by officials.

Local administration, police, and emergency response teams have launched immediate rescue and relief operations. They are working to clear the debris and trace any missing individuals. Residents and tourists in the area have also been advised to stay indoors and avoid travel until the situation becomes normal.

Heavy Rain And Thunderstorm Batter Delhi, Cause Waterlogging

Delhi witnessed a sudden change in weather overnight as thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain battered the national capital, causing waterlogging in several areas but bringing relief from the scorching heat. Flight operations were disrupted and trees and electricity poles were uprooted during the thunderstorm.

The rain led to a sharp drop in mercury with the city recording a minimum temperature of 19.8 degrees Celsius, 6.9 notches below the normal.

Several stretches, including Moti Bagh, Minto Road, ITO, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi Cantonment, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg and Chanakyapuri, were partially submerged. A car and a bus were seen almost completely submerged at an inundated underpass in the Delhi Cantonment area.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast a thunderstorm with rain, with the maximum temperature expected to settle around 38 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
