PM Modi Inaugurates Historic Chenab Rail Bridge in Jammu & Kashmir
Earlier in the day, PM Modi landed at the Air Force Station in Udhampur and flew to Reasi to inaugurate another marvel—the Chenab Rail Bridge. Part of the long-awaited Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), this bridge now stands as the world’s tallest railway arch bridge, proudly stretching across the Chenab River.
This project is more than just an engineering feat. It’s a lifeline that weaves Kashmir into India’s larger rail network, ensuring smoother, faster, and more reliable travel for thousands. As PM Modi flagged off the first Vande Bharat Express from Katra to Srinagar, it marked the successful completion of the 272-km USBRL project—years in the making and deeply significant for the region’s development.
Anji Khad Bridge: India’s First Cable-Stayed Railway Bridge
In yet another milestone, PM Modi also dedicated the Anji Khad Bridge to the nation—India’s first-ever cable-stayed railway bridge, built over the Anji River in Reasi. Nestled about 80 km from Jammu, this striking structure connects Katra and Reasi, slicing through difficult Himalayan terrain with grace and grit.
Framed by dramatic cliffs and unpredictable weather, the bridge is a triumph of innovation and perseverance. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw captured the awe-inspiring spirit of the bridge in a video shared on social media, adding a poetic Hindi caption that loosely translates to: "Walk with resolve, the path of virtue is wide. Keep moving forward."
