3 Killed As Bridge Collapses In Gujarat: Moving Truck, Tanker Fall In River — Watch

After the Vadodara bridge collpase, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has instructed technical experts to visit the site and investigate the cause of the structural failure.

At least three people were killed and five others were rescued after multiple vehicles plunged into the Mahisagar river following the collapse of a section of the Gambhira bridge in Gujarat’s Vadodara district on Wednesday morning.

Bridge Slab Collapses, Vehicles Plunge Into River

The tragic incident occurred around 7:30 am when a slab of the decades-old bridge caved in, sending five to six vehicles, including two trucks and two vans, into the river. Visuals from the site showed an entire segment of the bridge between two piers missing.

Rescue teams from the Vadodara fire department, local volunteers, and a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) unit rushed to the spot. Search and rescue efforts continued for several hours. “Three persons have died and five others have been rescued,” said Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel.

The 900-metre-long Gambhira bridge, which was inaugurated in 1985, connects Vadodara and Anand districts, facilitating traffic between central Gujarat and the Saurashtra region. The bridge has 23 piers in total. According to Patel, the structure underwent periodic maintenance. “The exact reason behind the collapse will be probed,” he assured.

Gujarat CM Orders Technical Inquiry

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has instructed technical experts to visit the site and investigate the cause of the structural failure. The incident has raised concerns over the condition of ageing infrastructure, especially in regions prone to heavy vehicle movement.

As rescue operations continue, authorities remain on high alert to assess further risks and prevent additional casualties.
