Another TMC Leader Shot Dead In Bengal In Less Than A Week, 3 Detained

Police detained three individuals, including two women, and are investigating possible involvement of someone close to Ghosh and potential business disputes as motives.

A Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead in West Bengal's Birbhum district, said the police on Monday, adding that three persons, including two women, have been detained in connection with the murder.

The incident took place early on Sunday when assailants opened fire at 42-year-old Piyush Ghosh, the Srinidhipur panchayat president.

Ghosh was attacked near his residence in Komarpur village in the district, an officer said, reported PTI.

"One bullet was fired from close range. Someone close to the deceased could be involved in the murder. We are probing possible business disputes," he said.

The development comes in less than a week after another party leader was shot dead near his residence in Kolkata's Bhangar Chaltaberia on Thursday night.

Rajjak Khan, close aide of TMC MP Saokat Molla, was returning home from a party meeting when gunmen shot at him, as per the police.

Moalla blamed the Indian Secular Front, saying party-backed miscreants carried out the attack.
