Bihar Weather Today: Rain Alert With Warning Of Thunderstorm And Lightning For Patna And Other Districts

Patna News: The India Meteorological Department in Patna has issued a weather alert for Bihar, forecasting rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in several districts on Friday. With a cyclonic circulation over Myanmar and eastern Bangladesh moving towards northeast Bihar, the weather is expected to turn cloudy with scattered showers across most districts, except in the state’s southwest region. Light to moderate rain is anticipated throughout the day, and residents in affected areas have been advised to exercise caution.

The districts likely to experience significant rainfall Friday include Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Begusarai, Jahanabad, Lakhisarai, Banka, Munger, Jamui, Bhagalpur, Khagaria, Kishanganj, Supaul, Araria, Purnea, and Katihar. The Patna weather office has also highlighted the possibility of thunderstorms in these regions, urging residents to stay alert for potential lightning hazards.

Meanwhile, the flood situation is grim in several districts, with the rivers still flowing above the danger mark, according to officials.

Rainfall Patterns And Temperature Changes

According to early-morning data from the weather office, a yellow alert was issued for light to moderate rain between 4 am and 8 am in select districts, including Saran, Bhojpur, Arwal, Jahanabad, Patna, Aurangabad, Gaya, and Sheikhpura. No major shifts in the state’s overall temperature were expected, but a slight decrease of 1-3 degrees Celsius is forecast starting Saturday, bringing some relief from the prevailing heat.

In the 24 hours leading up to Thursday afternoon, Bihar recorded its highest rainfall of 59.2 mm in Supaul, followed by Katihar with 50.2 mm and Araria with 35.4 mm. Moderate showers were also reported in Saharsa, Buxar, Madhubani, and Madhepura, while Patna, Muzaffarpur, Saran, and other districts saw lighter rainfall levels ranging from 11 to 16 mm. 

Temperatures remained mostly stable across the state, with Patna’s maximum temperature at 33.3 degrees Celsius, a slight rise from previous days. The highest maximum temperature was recorded at 35.9 degrees in Gopalganj, while Kishanganj registered the lowest at 28 degrees Celsius.

The cloud cover and rainfall forecast have come as a result of the cyclonic activity shifting across eastern regions toward Bihar. This weather system is expected to linger briefly, contributing to scattered rainfall across the region.
