Bihar: Complaint Filed Against Patna DM For Slapping BPSC Exam Candidate

A complaint has been filed against Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh for slapping a BPSC candidate amid allegations of paper leak.

A complaint has been filed against Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh for slapping a candidate who appeared for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination at Bapu, amid chaos triggered by allegations of paper leak.

The complaint against the Patna DM was filed with the National Human Rights Commission by one Brajesh Singh, a resident of Bihar, reported India Today.

A video of the District Magistrate surfaced online on Friday where he was seen slapping a candidate, dislodging his spectacles, which fell on the road. The student was then taken away by the police personnel and Singh is seen shouting at others.

The incident took place during a protest that erupted as the allegations of a paper leak at an examination centre in Patna surfaced prompting 300-400 aspirants to stage a demonstration and boycott the examination.

The aspirants alleged that the question paper was leaked on social media before the examination began.

When asked about his action, Singh said his intention was not to hurt anyone adding that the road was blocked and two people, including a candidate needed to be sent to the hospital, according to an NDTV report.

The situation at the examination centre escalated when an additional examination superintendent, identified as Ram Iqbal Singh, reportedly died of a heart attack while a female candidate fainted.

Meanwhile, BPSC chairman Parmar Ravi said close to five lakh students appeared for the exam on Friday which was held in a free and fair manner in over 900 centres with just one of them witnessing chaos.

"In one centre in Patna, some of the candidates snatched question papers from the invigilators and stormed out of the examination hall screaming that the paper had been leaked," he said.
