Bihar Fire: Nitish Kumar Orders High-Level Probe Into Arson In Nawada's Dalit Locality

Nawada fire: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered a probe into the alleged arson in Nawada that targeted people from the Dalit community. Nearly 80 houses were set on fire allegedly on Wednesday evening over a land dispute. Nitish Kumar has ordered the ADG of Law & Order in Bihar to visit Nawada to inspect the spot.

CM Nitish Kumar also held a high-level review meeting over the incident. "The culprits will be given the harshest punishment, no culprit will be spared," he said in the meeting.

What Happened In Bihar's Nawada?

On Wednesday, chaos erupted in Bihar’s Nawada district when miscreants set fire to at least 80 homes in the Mahadalit Tola area. The attackers, who initially fired bullets and later set the homes on fire. Thick plumes of smoke billowed into the air as the fire spread quickly, trapping residents inside their homes until they fled in panic, leaving their belongings behind. The blaze also claimed the lives of many cattle.

The incident took place in Deodoor Krishna Nagar, within the Mufassil police station's jurisdiction. Residents, primarily from the Mahadalit community, had been residing on this government land for over a decade.

In response to the attack, over 100 police officers were swiftly deployed to contain the situation. Though the fires have since been extinguished, tensions in the area remain high, with the identity of the perpetrators still unknown. Law enforcement is now investigating the cause behind this violent assault, determined to uncover who was responsible for the arson.
