Bengaluru Weather Update: IMD Warns Of More Rain On Thursday

Bengaluru faced heavy rainfall, leading to waterlogging and traffic congestion. The IMD forecasts more rain in the coming days.

Bengaluru Weather Forecast: Bengaluru continued to reel under heavy rainfall on Wednesday, creating widespread waterlogging and causing significant disruptions in the city. Civic and disaster response teams were deployed across affected areas to manage waterlogging and ease traffic congestion, as the city faced another day of relentless rain that impacted daily life and economic activities alike.

More heavy rain is expected in the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast indicating overcast skies and the potential for very heavy rain in Bengaluru and surrounding districts until at least October 18. The forecast for Thursday indicates a high likelihood of heavy rain impacting both coastal and interior districts such as Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Chitradurga, Chikkamagaluru, Tumakuru, and Davangere.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar assured residents that the Karnataka government was fully prepared to manage the flooding and tackle related challenges.

Meanwhile, videos of inundated roads and offices surfaced on social media Wednesday, capturing public attention with images of water cascading over walls and flooding workspaces.

Ind Vs NZ Test Day One Washed Out, Trains Cancelled, Schools Closed

Bengaluru recorded 66.1 mm of rain over the past 24 hours, according to official data released on Wednesday.

The first day of the opening Test between India and New Zealand being played in Bengaluru was wiped out Wednesday due to the heavy rain, which also forced the cancellation of several South Western Railway trains, as waterlogged tracks on the up fast line affected the bridge between Basin Bridge Junction in Chennai and Vyasarpadi.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru Metro services on the Purple Line were briefly disrupted due to a fallen tree blocking the tracks.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) deployed 24/7 control rooms in each of its eight zones and launched a helpline for residents to report rain-related issues. BBMP workers pumped out stagnant water from key areas, including Silver County Road near Haralur and the Bommanahalli zone, which cleared up traffic congestion in these parts. Emergency tractors were also sent to Kendriya Vihar in Yelahanka to assist residents in evacuating from waterlogged apartments.

As a precautionary measure, schools across Bengaluru Urban district were closed, and numerous IT and biotech companies allowed employees to work remotely.
