Rain And Thunderstorms Likely To Continue In Bengal This Week, IMD Issues Alerts

Bengal is bracing for a week of intense weather, with rain, thunderstorms, and squals. The IMD has issued a fresh alert for severe weather, warning of Nor'wester conditions, rough seas, and lightning.

Brace for a week of intense weather across Bengal as rain, thunderstorms, and squally winds are set to continue. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert for severe weather, warning of Nor’wester conditions (Kalbaishakhi), rough seas, and lightning over the next several days.

Storm Alert And Warning For Coastal Bengal

On Thursday, May 1, all districts in West Bengal are likely to get scattered thunderstorms. South Bengal is under an orange alert, with authorities advising fishermen not to venture into the sea due to high waves and turbulent conditions along the Bengal and Odisha coasts.

According to the India Meteorological Department in Alipore, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds will persist for the next seven days. This will keep the scorching summer heat away.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are most likely to be around 32˚C and 23˚C in Kolkata.

Gusty Winds And Hailstorms

On Thursday and Friday, South Bengal is expected to get stronger thunderstorms with gusty winds blowing at 40–50 km/h. Isolated regions may experience Kalbaishakhi or Nor'westers, along with hail and lightning.

North Bengal districts will also see rain and thunderstorms, although intensity may be slightly lower on Thursday. However, storm activity is expected to pick up again on Friday. No major change in temperature is forecast for the week.

The IMD forecasts that intense thunderstorms will continue for the next three days, followed by scattered rainfall across various districts. Evening or nighttime storms, accompanied by lightning and strong winds, are likely through May 7.
