Assam Youth Arrested For Threatening Rapper Emiway Bantai; No Gang Links Found So Far

Rapper Emiway Bantai received death threats demanding ₹1 crore, purportedly from Goldy Brar, an associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

A youth from Assam has been arrested by the Navi Mumbai Police for threatening rapper Emiway Bantai and demanding money. According to news agency IANS, the accused, a college student, had also threatened two other singers previously, targeting them for extortion. So far, the probe has found no links between him and any criminal gangs, the report further added.

The popular rapper Muhammad Bilal Shaikh received a death threat with a ransom demand of Rs. 1 crore from a person who identified himself as Goldy Baar, a Canada-based close associate of incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, according to the police, reports Hindustan Times. The threat also sent a message to the rapper and also mentioned the name of US-based Rohit Godara, another associate of the gangster, the report further added, quoting officers.

“I am gangster Goldy Brar. Your singer has 24 hours. I want ₹1 crore or else I will kill him," the message stated, as quoted by News18.

The rapper filed a complaint at the NRI Coastal police station via an employee of Bantai Records who spotted the message.

According to News18, a threat message to Bantai has been sent couple of dats after he paid a musical tribute to the late singer Sidhu Moosewala. 

“Sidhu Moosewala is more than an artist–he’s a movement. His voice, his message, and his spirit continue to inspire me and so many others every single day. ‘Tribute to Sidhu Moosewala’ is my way of showing love and respect to someone who changed the game in his own way. Sidhu and I had actually spoken about collaborating. It was something we both wanted. This tribute is my way of making that dream a reality," Bantai said in a statement after releasing the song.

Moosewala was tragically murdered on May 29, 2022. He was shot dead by the assailants in his car in Jawaharkhe village of the Mansa district.
