Ahmedabad Class 10 Girl Critical After Jumping Off School Building During Recess

She sustained serious injuries and is currently admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in Thaltej. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine what led to the tragic event.

Classmates Tried To Stop Her, But She Broke Free
According to early reports, the Class 10 student attempted to take her life around 12:30 PM during the recess. Witnesses say three to four classmates noticed her walking towards the building's parapet and rushed to intervene.
“One of her friends held her hand, trying to stop her,” said a school official. “But she broke free and jumped before any teacher or staff member could be alerted.”
The fall left her with a severe condition, head trauma, and multiple fractures. She was initially taken to a nearby hospital via EMRI 108. She was later shifted to a hospital in Thaltej, where she remains unconscious and in critical condition.
Investigation Underway, Reason Still Unknown
Navrangpura police have registered a medico-legal case and are probing all possible angles. Inspector A.A. Desai confirmed that the girl was unconscious when officers arrived at the hospital. "We are yet to ascertain reason for the possible suicide attempt by the girl. We are gathering more details about the incident," he said.
Safin Hassan, in-charge DCP (Zone 1), added, "We do not suspect foul play at the moment yet are investigating all angles. It is too early to comment why she took this step. We will speak to her parents and teachers to understand her background." He also said, "Attempts are on to retrieve CCTV footage of the premises that may throw light on the circumstances."
The student had been enrolled at Som Lalit School for the past five years, according to the managing trustee of the school, Pragnesh Shastri. Authorities have confirmed that the girl will be questioned only once her condition stabilises.
For now, the focus remains on her recovery, as the community, police, and her family wait for answers in the wake of this deeply distressing incident.
