AAP MLAs Choose Atishi As Their Leader In Delhi Assembly

AAP leader Gopal Rai said AAP will fulfil the responsibility of a healthy opposition.

AAP MLAs have named former Chief Minister Atishi as Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly. She is the first woman to become Leader of Opposition in the House. The decision was taken at a meeting of AAP's legislative party members on Sunday afternoon. The announcement was made a day before the commencement of the Delhi Assembly session.

While making the announcement, AAP leader Gopal Rai said, "In the legislative party meeting today, it has been unanimously decided that Atishi will be the leader of the opposition in the Delhi Assembly...In challenging times, Atishi has served the people of Delhi as the CM...AAP will fulfil the responsibility of a healthy opposition."

Atishi thanked Arvind Kejriwal and members of the Legislative Party. "Thanks to Aam Aadmi Party's national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and the Legislative Party for trusting me. A strong Opposition raises the voice of the people. The Aam Aadmi Party will fulfil all the promises made by BJP," Atishi said.

BJP returned to power in the national capital after 26 years by winning 48 of the 70 assembly seats, while AAP managed to secure 22 and the Congress scored a duck.

Atishi On CAG Report

On the CAG report to be tabled in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi said, "As CM, I had sent the CAG report to the speaker of the Delhi assembly...These CAG reports were sent to the assembly in a sealed envelope before the elections...BJP is trying to spread the misconception that the CAG report is being presented by them...The misconception being spread among the people of Delhi should be brought before the public."
