'Aaditya Thackeray, His Actor Friend Dino Morea...': Shiv Sena Leader Sanjay Nirupam's Big Claim On Mithi River Scam
Actor Dino Morea and his brother were called for questioning by the EOW of Mumbai Police in connection with the Mithi river cleaning scam. Sanjay Nirupam has alleged Aaditya Thackery's involvement.
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam has made a big allegation on former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's son Aditya Thackeray and Actor Dino Morea in the Mithi River scam of Mumbai. Nirupam said that both Aditya Thackeray and Dino Morea are close friends as he blamed the former for alleged corruption in the project at the time, demanding investigation against them.
This comes as Dino Morea appeared again on Wednesday for questioning before the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Maharashtra Police in connection with the Mithi river silt removal scam. The actor is being quizzed over suspicion of links with the two middlemen arrested in this case.
The Shiv Sena leader said Wednesday that there are two primary reasons for waterlogging in the city: drain cleaning and the Mithi River. "In 2005, on July 26, Mumbai received more than 900 mm of rainfall. At that time, the Thackeray family—except for Balasaheb Thackeray—had moved to a five-star hotel. In contrast, just two days ago, Eknath Shinde was personally inspecting the situation from the control room," he said.
He further stated: "Since 2005, ₹1,200 crore has been spent on the cleaning of the Mithi River. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police has registered a case to investigate alleged corruption. Eighteen different contractors were assigned the river cleaning work. From 2005 to 2022, Shiv Sena held power in the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation), and no contract was granted without permission from Matoshree (the Thackeray residence)."
Claiming that the contracts were awarded by Uddhav and Aaditya Thackeray, Nirupam said that the EOW investigation has revealed the name of actor Dino Morea, who is said is a close associate of Aaditya Thackeray.
"During investigation it was found that Aaditya Thackeray's best friend film actor Dino Morea also had a role to play. Mumbai Police interrogated Dino Morea and his brother for eight hours. Entire Mumbai is aware about the relationship between Dino Morea and Aaditya Thackeray. Both the friends often party together. Aaditya Thackeray had awarded Dino Morea a contract to set up open gyms in Mumbai. There were allegations against both of them in Disha Salian murder case. Investigation should be done regarding allegations against Dino Morea in Mithi River case," he said.

Sanjay Nirupam said that Aaditya Thackeray should also be probed just like Dino Morea and his brother are being investigated. "Mumbai gets flooded, water-logging happens, Uddhav Thackeray and Aditya Thackeray are responsible for this. Matoshree has a role. Aditya Thackeray and Dino Morea's role should be investigated," he stressed.
Notably, the police has registered a case against 13 people including contractors and municipal officials in connection with the alleged scam of Rs 65 crore related to the removal of silt from the Mithi river flowing through Mumbai.
It is alleged that Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials had prepared the tender for the desilting contract so as to benefit a particular supplier of the machinery needed for the job.
