5 Young Men Drown While Taking Dip In Godavari On Maha Shivratri In Andhra Pradesh

12 men entered the river around 8.30 am before heading to a nearby temple. Five of them were swept away by the strong currents, while the others were safe.

Andhra Pradesh: Five men, aged around 20, drowned in the Godavari river while taking a holy dip on Maha Shivratri in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district on Wednesday. The incident took place at Tadipudi village in the district.

A group of 12 men entered the river around 8.30 am before heading to a nearby temple. Five of them were swept away by the strong currents, while the others were safe.

State Disaster Response Force, police, and local officials have recovered three bodies, while search operations were underway to locate the remaining two victims. The deceased were identified as P. Durga Prasad (19), P. Sai Krishna, and a 17-year-old juvenile. The search was on for G. Akash (19) and Anishetty Pavan (19), as per a report by ETV Bharat.

As one of them started to struggle, the others hurried to assist. Eventually, five of them were carried away by the strong currents, and six men managed to swim to safety.
