2 Teens Dead As Argument Over 'Who Gets Roti First' During Wedding Feast In UP Turns Violent

The victims, Ravi Kumar, 18, and another unidentified teenager aged 17, attacked each other with sticks as the dispute over who would receive tandoori roti first during the wedding feast escalated.

A wedding celebration in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district turned tragic after a fight over who will get the tandoori roti first during the feast, led to the death of two teenagers.

The seemingly trivial argument over food took place on May 3 during a wedding in a local village in Amethi turned violent, leading to a physical fight between two young guests.  

The victims, Ravi Kumar, 18, and another unidentified teenager aged 17, reportedly attacked each other with sticks as the dispute over who would receive tandoori roti first escalated. This left both of them severely injuried, India Today reported.

Police Investigation Underway

According to police and eyewitness accounts, an argument ensued between Kumar, also known as Kallu, and the 17-year-old guest while waiting to be served at the wedding feast. As the disagreement quickly escalated, they began hitting each other with sticks found nearby.

While the minor died on the spot due to severe head injuries, Ravi succumbed to his wounds while being taken to a trauma centre for treatment, India Today reported.

"We were all busy working when suddenly we were informed that a fight had broken out," said the bride’s father Ramjeevan Varma. "When we reached the spot, the boys had already been fighting and had injured themselves badly. All of this happened over a roti," he added.

According to local police, both the bodies have been taken into custody and sent for autopsy. Gairiganj Circle Officer Akhilesh Varma confirmed the incident and stated that further legal action will be taken on the basis of the postmortem findings.
