With work-life balance being a hot topic of debate in workplace culture nowadays, the importance of being supported by a good manager cannot be overstated. A toxic manager can make a good workplace also seem like the biggest mistake of your life.
Some bosses go beyond just making the culture intolerable and adversely impact their employee’s mental health. One such manager went viral recently for his reaction to an employee getting in an accident.
Sharing the screenshot of the conversation between the two, a user @kirawontmiss on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, asked, “what would y’all respond with if your manager says this?” The post showed the employee sending the manager a picture of their damaged car following an accident, to which the latter showed no empathy and questioned when they can be expected at work.

Instead of asking details about the employee’s health, the manager first responded, “Keep me updated on what time you’re expecting to be here”. They followed it with another message the next day that read, “It's understandable why you would be late, but regardless anything that prevents you from being at the workplace other than a death in the family is unexcused at any company.”

The post quickly went viral and shocked Netizens at the lack of empathy displayed by the manager. One of the users noted, “Managers like this scare me, like is your life that miserable?!”
Multiple users came forward and talked about their own work-related horror stories. A person shared their own experience of how their manager refused to believe them when they said they have Covid.
However, there were some cases of people dealing with a kind boss as well, giving some hope for the work culture. A person noted, “Happened to me at my last job. My boss asked me if I was alright and told me to let him know if I needed anything. It doesn’t cost anything to be cool to people.”
One of the users suggested, “Block and delete. Never go back to that work. And if any company in the future ever asked why you left you can pull up this screenshot.”
