Petrol Price Breaches Rs 93 In Delhi, Close To Rs100-Mark In Mumbai; Check Latest City Rates Here

With the latest increase in prices, fuel prices in Mumbai are inching closer to the Rs 100 mark even as prices in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan remain the costliest in the country.

New Delhi: It seems there is no respite for the common man as the fuel prices were once again hiked for the eleventh time on Friday after a two daybreak.

As per the price notification by state-owned fuel retailers, prices of petrol in the national capital has gone up by 19 paise to cost Rs 93.04 per litre while diesel rates jumped to Rs 83.80 per litre after the increase of 29 paise.

In Mumbai, petrol prices touched Rs 99.32 per litre and diesel prices are at Rs 91.01 per litre.  With the latest increase in prices, fuel prices in the city are inching closer to the Rs 100 mark even as prices in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan remain the costliest in the country with petrol costing Rs 104 per litre and diesel at Rs 96.62 a litre.

The recent hike comes amid the slip in fuel demand during the first half of May as a result of Covid-induced lockdown measures in several states.

The sales of road transport fuels took a hit between May 1 and 15 and sales dropped by a fifth from the previous month and about 28 per cent from the same period in 2019, as per Bloomberg.

The dwindling consumption in the world’s third-biggest crude consumer was expected to weigh on sentiment on oil prices and dampening expectations for a strong global demand rebound in the summer.

On the other hand, the International Energy Agency also lowered its 2021 global oil demand forecast from the impact of the raging virus outbreak in India, while OPEC and its allies are already taking a cautious view.

 It is to be noted that petrol and diesel prices are fixed on the basis of freight charges, local taxes, and VAT. Petrol and diesel prices vary from state to state due to taxations imposed by central and state governments.

The central and state taxes comprise 60 per cent of the retail selling price of petrol while more than 54 per cent for diesel. Centre levies Rs 32.90 per litre of excise duty on petrol and Rs 31.80 a litre on diesel.
