Petrol Diesel Prices Hike: Fuel Prices Touch Record High In These Cities. Check Latest Rates Here

In Delhi, petrol is priced at Rs95.56 a litre while diesel is being sold at Rs86.47.

New Delhi: The incessant hike in fuel rates has invited more woes for the common man as fuel prices were hiked again on Wednesday after a single day pause.  Petrol and diesel prices touched recond high with petrol becoming dearer by 19 paise per litre in Delhi, according to a price notification of oil marketing companies/ (OMCs).

Petrol is priced at Rs95.56 a litre while diesel is now priced at Rs86.47 in Delhi. In Mumbai, petrol is costing Rs101.76 per litre and diesel Rs 93.85 per litre.

The financial capital Mumbai became the first metro city where petrol touched over Rs100-a-litre mark. It is the 22nd rise in fuel prices since May 4, when state-owned oil companies ended an 18-day hiatus in rate revision due to ongoing assembly elections in certain states. The petrol prices have witnessed a hike of Rs1.40 per litre in the last nine days and a hike of Rs6/Litre since May 4.

In Chennai, the rate of diesel has breached the 91-per-litre mark. Diesel in Chennai is priced at Rs 91.15 per litre, up from Rs 90.97 on June 8. While petrol is costing Rs 96.94 per litre, and witnessed a hike of 17 paise from its previous day when it was sold at Rs 96.77 per litre.

The fuel prices in Kolkata also witnessed a hike with a litre of petrol being retailed at Rs 95.52 while diesel price are at Rs 89.32.

It is to be noted that petrol and diesel prices are fixed on the basis of freight charges, local taxes, and VAT. Petrol and diesel prices vary from state to state due to taxations imposed by central and state governments.

Rajasthan levies the highest VAT on petrol and diesel in the country, followed by Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The central and state taxes comprise 60 per cent of the retail selling price of petrol while more than 54 per cent for diesel. Centre levies Rs 32.90 per litre of excise duty on petrol and Rs 31.80 a litre on diesel.
