Maruti Suzuki's Total Sales Zoom 26% In August; Tata Motors Clocks 36% Rise In Sales

Hyundai Motor India Ltd has logged a 5 per cent increase in total sales to 62,210 units in August

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, India’s largest automaker, on Thursday clocked a 26.37 per cent increase in total sales at 1,65,173 units in August 2022. The company had sold a total of 1,30,699 units in the same month last year, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) said in a statement.

Total domestic passenger vehicle sales were at 1,34,166 units as compared to 1,03,187 units in the year-ago month, a growth of 30 per cent, it added.

Sales of mini segment cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, grew to 22,162 units as against 20,461 units in August 2021.

Sales of compact cars, including Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S, and WagonR, rose by 57 per cent to 71,557 units as compared to 45,577 units in the year-ago month.

Utility vehicles, consisting of Brezza, Ertiga, S-Cross and XL6, clocked sales of 26,932 units last month as compared to 24,337 units earlier.

“The shortage of electronic components had a minor impact on the production of vehicles, mainly in domestic models. The company took all possible measures to minimise the impact,” Maruti Suzuki said.

Sales of van Eeco were at 11,999 units last month as against 10,666 units in August 2021, while that of light commercial vehicle Super Carry stood at 3,371 units as against 2,588 units earlier.

Maruti Suzuki said its exports in August 2022 stood at 21,481 units as compared to 20,619 units in the same month last year.

On the other hand, Tata Motors on Thursday said its total sales increased by 36 per cent to 78,843 units in August.

The auto major had sold 57,995 units in the same month of the previous year. Its total domestic sales increased by 41 cent to 76,479 units in August. The company had dispatched 54,190 units in August 2021.

Passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market stood at 47,166 units last month, as against 28,018 units in August 2021, an increase of 68 per cent.

Commercial vehicle sales in the domestic market were at 29,313 units last month, as compared to 26,172 units in the same month last year, an increase of 12 per cent, it added.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd on Thursday logged a 5 per cent increase in total sales to 62,210 units in August. The company had dispatched 59,068 units to its dealers in the same month last year, HMIL said in a statement.

Its domestic sales rose 6 per cent to 49,510 units against 46,866 units in August 2021, the company added. The company's exports last month stood at 12,700 units, up 4 per cent from 12,202 units in August 2021.

"With the continuously improving semi-conductor situation, supplies continue to go up enabling us to serve our beloved customers with their car in the festival season that has kicked off in India with Onam and Ganesh Chaturthi," HMIL Director (Sales, Marketing and Service) Tarun Garg said.

The newly launched premium SUV Tucson has also received an overwhelming customer response with robust booking numbers, he added.
