Delhi Airport Listed 'Best Airport In India & Central Asia', Also Bags Covid-19 Airport Excellence Award
Under the umbrella of GMR Airports, Delhi Airport has ranked first, whereas Hyderabad Airport came second in the ‘Best Airport in India and Central Asia’ category.
New Delhi: In pandemic times when taking a flight is fraught with concerns, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has managed to improve its overall ranking to climb 45th position in the 2021 World’s Top 50 Airport league.
Delhi International Airport, a GMR-led consortium, on Monday, announced that IGIA has been awarded the ‘Best Airport in India and Central Asia’ for the third consecutive year in the 2021 Skytrax World Airport Awards.

The airport received the ‘Covid-19 Airport Excellence Award’ for providing exemplary safety protocols during the global pandemic, making it the only airport in India to be ascribed in this category.
The airport has also improved its overall ranking, moving from number 50 in 2020 to number 45 in the 2021 World’s Top 50 Airport league.
While sharing his views on the achievement, Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO-DIAL said: “The real praise and success behind winning this remarkable achievement goes to all the airport staff, stakeholders and partners working at Delhi Airport, who have shown a constant resilience, focus, and customer-centricity.”
Meanwhile, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) progressed in its overall ranking, moving from 71st position in 2020 to 64th position in 2021 World’s Top 100 Airport league.
Under the umbrella of GMR Airports, Delhi Airport has ranked first, whereas Hyderabad Airport came second in the ‘Best Airport in India and Central Asia’ category, beating Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai airports in India and Colombo Airport in Central Asia region.
The Skytrax World Airport Awards are the most prestigious accolades for the airport industry, voted by customers in the largest, annual global airport customer satisfaction survey.
