All Eyes On Nirmala Sitharaman As Modi Govt Set To Present Last Full Budget Before 2024 Polls

All eyes are on Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as she is set to present the Modi government's last full Budget before the 2024 general polls.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will today present the Union Budget 2023 which will be the Modi government's last full budget before the 2024 general polls.

There are several expectations bound with the finance minister's fifth Union Budget. In the final full-year Budget before the general elections in 2024, the Narendra Modi-led government may also try to appease every sector of society to consolidate its grip on power. From major industries to MSMEs, salaried classes to farmers, and education to healthcare, everyone is eyeing some relief from this Budget.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said amid global economic turmoil, India’s budget will attempt to meet the hopes and aspirations of common citizens and be a ray of hope for the world.

Addressing the media ahead of the Budget Session of Parliament, Modi said recognised voices in the world of economy were bringing positive messages from all sides.

The prime minister said the Budget, to be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday, will strive to fulfil people's hopes, aspirations and also boost the hopes with which the world is looking at India.

"The ray of hope being seen by the world will glow brighter -- for this, I firmly believe the finance minister will make all efforts to meet these aspirations," Modi said.

He also noted that President Droupadi Murmu was delivering her maiden address to the joint sitting of Parliament at the start of the Budget Session.

The President's speech is the pride of the Constitution of India, the pride of India's parliamentary system, and also an opportunity to respect women and the great tribal traditions of the country, Modi said.

To make people aware of the pro-people measured announced in the Budget, the BJP will start a 12-day nationwide campaign on Wednesday.

India’s budget will attempt to meet the hopes and aspirations of common citizens and be a ray of hope for the world even as the world is going through a global economic turmoil, Prime Minister Modi said.

On Tuesday, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Economic Survey (2022-23) in Parliament. The Economic Survey 2022-23 has forecast India’s GDP growth for the next fiscal 2023-24 in a broad range of 6-6.8 per cent. Its baseline forecast for real GDP growth is 6.5 per cent.  

According to the Economic Survey 2022-23, the Indian economy is “staging a broad-based recovery across sectors”, positioning itself to “ascend to the pre-pandemic growth path in FY23.”
