In April, documents pertaining to the forgery and cheating case involving Minister Kakani were stolen from the Fourth Additional Judicial Magistrate Court in Nellore.
In December 2017, then-MLA Kakani accused Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and former minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy of accumulating massive wealth and provided documents as evidence.
Somireddy had filed a police report alleging that the documents given by Kakani were fabricated. In addition, a charge sheet was filed in the case.
The evidence provided in the case was stolen from the court on April 14, just a few days after Kakani became a minister. The thieves took away a bag containing documents, a few electronic items, and a few stamps.
The police started an inquiry after receiving a complaint from court officials. The stolen bag was eventually discovered in a gutter outside the court, but several documents were missing. Police have also arrested two suspects in the case.
