Rain Fury In Andhra Pradesh Kills 33, Spate In Papagni River Collapses Bridge | More Updates

The spate in the river also washed away railway track in Andhra Pradesh.

Chennai: The heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh led to a spate in several rivers, inundated thousands of homes, uprooted trees and caused a flash flood in places including Nellore, Chittoor and Kadapa districts. The rains received due to depression brought normal life to a halt and the rain furry has killed 33 people and left 12 people missing. 

According to a report on UNI, a river Papagni, which was in spate, led to the collapse a bridge and washed away railway track between Nellore-Padugupadu stations and Chennai-Kolkata National Highway-16. Following this, the railways canceled the train service in the route. The South Central Railway has also canceled over 100 express trains and diverted at least 29 trains due to the rains, said a report on PTI.

Another bridge over Papagani river in Kadapa district collapsed and some parts of the bridge caved in due to the floods.

The state is also experiencing a fresh flood scare with Rayalacheruvu lake which is in spate as started developing breach in Tirupati. 

Apart from Papagani and Rayalacheruvu, the rivers including Tungabadrha, Penna, Sunkesula and Somasila are in spate. 

The Andhra Pradesh government has deployed National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) personnel to undertake the works and they have pressed in earthmovers to clear the flood-hit villages. 

In Kadapa district, a three-storeyed building collapsed in Radhakrishna Nagar due to the rain fury. However, a mother and daughter have been rescued from the remains. 

Earlier, Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday conducted an aerial survey in Chittor-Kadapa-Nellore districts which are worst affected places in the recent rains.
