The Minister said that the child made the request innocently, so they are considering the request. She also extended warm regards to the child, identified as Shanku, his mother, and the anganwadi staff. She emphasised that the government has already introduced initiatives like providing eggs and milk in anganwadis to enhance children's nutrition.
"The menu will be reviewed, taking Shanku's suggestion into account. Under this government, a scheme to provide eggs and milk through anganwadis has been successfully implemented. In coordination with the Department of Women and Child Development, local bodies provide a variety of foods in anganwadis," George added, as per a report on PTI.
The viral clip, originally posted on Instagram by Shanku’s mother, shows him wearing a cap and expressing his desire for “birnani” (biryani) and “poricha kozhi” (chicken fry) at the anganwadi. His mother later revealed that after the video gained attention, several people reached out, offering to send biryani and chicken fry to the child.
In 2022, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan introduced a scheme to provide eggs and milk to children at anganwadis across the state. Aimed at enhancing children's nutrition, Vijayan emphasized the importance of ensuring proper nutrition during childhood, as it forms the foundation for healthy growth.
This initiative ensures that each child receives milk twice a week and an egg twice a week.
