JMM’s Hemant Soren won Barhait assembly seat in 2014 Jharkhand Assembly Elections by a margin of 24087 votes. Runner-up Hemlal Murmu of BJP bagged 38428 votes. Third position was held by JVM's Simon Malto. Fourth came Monika Kisku while Sanatan Murmu of CPM got the fifth spot.
