Lawyers Vs Police: 2 Advocates Attempt Suicide Outside Rohini Court As Protests Continue

The Bar Council of India has appealed to the members of the legal fraternity to maintain peace and harmony in the courts and resume their court work.

New Delhi: Delhi District Court lawyers are continuing their protest against the clash between their colleagues and Delhi police personnel, at Tis Hazari Court Complex, Karkardooma Court and Rohini Court premises and have boycotted all judicial work. Work at Patiala House Court and Saket Court, has also been affected. Outside Rohini Court, situation turned ugly as a lawyer tried to immolate himself by pouring kerosene oil on himself, while another attempted to jump off from court building. On Tuesday, an unprecedented protest was staged by Delhi police personnel outside Police Headquarters in ITO, which was called off only on the acceptance of all the demands of the cops. The protesting cops have resumed their duty, on Wednesday, after 11 hours of rigorous sloganeering and demonstration. However, the group of agitating lawyers has decided to move on with their protest despite the appeal by Bar Council of India to call off their strike. The Bar Council of India has appealed to the members of the legal fraternity to maintain peace and harmony in the courts and resume their court work. "Abstinence from work in all Delhi District Courts will continue tomorrow," the Delhi District Courts Coordination Committee said in a communique on Tuesday. However, it said that litigants will have permission to access to the courtrooms. Also Watch:  Agitating lawyer climbs Rohini Court building in suicide bid The lawyers are protesting against a clash between police and lawyers at Tis Hazari Court complex on Saturday, which left at least 20 cops and several advocates injured. Some advocates sustained bullet injuries after police allegedly opened fire on them. Lawyers have been protesting at several places across the city against the scuffle. A group of lawyers also protested outside the Supreme Court on Monday, demanding the enforcement of Lawyers' Protection Act. One Assistant Sub-Inspector was suspended and a special investigation team (SIT) was constituted to probe the violence on Saturday. A total of around 20 police personnel including Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), two Station House Officers (SHOs) and eight lawyers sustained injuries in the incident, reports said.
