Trump visits 'critical' Steve Scalise in hospital

Washington D.C. [U.S.A.], June 15 (ANI): U.S. President Donald Trump, along with wife Melania, visited critically wounded Republican Steve Scalise, who is a victim of yesterday's Virginia shooting at the Medstar Washington Hospital Center.

Following the visit, the President tweeted, "Just left hospital. Rep. Steve Scalise, one of the truly great people, is in very tough shape - but he is a real fighter. Pray for Steve!"

Scalise underwent surgery earlier on Wednesday for wounds sustained in the shooting and the hospital said, after the surgery, that he remained in critical condition.

A U.S. Capitol Police officer, who was also hurt in the gun attack, was receiving treatment at the facility, situated about three miles northeast of the White House, reports the CNN.

At least five people including senior U.S. congressman Scalise were wounded when a gunman opened fire during a baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday morning.

The shooting took place at 6.30 a.m. in the morning when the Republican Congressional Baseball Team was practising and the unidentified gunman opened fire around the YMCA on East Monroe Street in Alexandria.

It has emerged that the assailant had expressed anger at Trump's election and support for Democratic candidates. (ANI)
