Trump, Nigerian president didn't discuss 's---hole countries' remark

Washington DC [United States] May 1 (ANI): United States President Donald Trump, who welcomed his Nigerian counterpart Muhammadu Buhari in Washington, on Monday (local time) maintained, that his reported "shithole countries" comments didn't come up during the discussions between the two leaders.

"We didn't discuss it, because the President knows me, and he knows where I'm coming from and I appreciate that," quoted the Hill, Trump as saying during a joint news conference alongside the President of Nigeria.

However, Trump, who earlier had denied making such remarks to describe the African nations, apparently did not make such denial this time.

"And you do have some countries that are in very bad shape and very tough places to live in," Trump added.

In January, reports surfaced that Trump asked a room of lawmakers in the Oval Office why the United States is "having all these people from shithole countries come here," referring to African countries and Haiti.

Buhari who is the first African president Trump has hosted at the White House did not dwell upon the "shithole countries" comments because he was unsure of the authenticity of the media reports doing the rounds.

"I'm not sure about, you know, the validity of whether that allegation against the President is true or not. So the best thing for me is to keep quiet," Buhari said.

According to the reports, the discussions between the two leaders revolved around national security and economy. (ANI)
