PM Modi speaks to Nepal's communist leaders, PM Deuba on phone: MEA

New Delhi [India], Dec 21 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday informed that Prime Minister Narendra modi had a telephonic conversation with Nepal's communist leaders and Prime Minister Sher Bahadu Deuba.

MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with Nepal communist leaders Khadga Prasad Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba."

After securing massive victory in the recently concluded general elections in the country, Nepal's Left alliance has claimed to develop relations with the neighbouring countries on the basis of independent foreign policy.

"As per the directions made by the constitution of the Nepal, we will develop the relation with friendly nations especially the neighbouring countries and the international unions and organizations on the basis of independent foreign policy", the Left alliance of Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) and the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Centre (CPN-MC) said in a press statement released after a press meet organised in Kathmandu on Sunday.

The alliance of the CPN-UML and the Maoist Center, which fought the elections of November and December, have secured a majority in the Parliament and is poised to lead the next government expected to be formed in January.

"We (CPN-UML and the Maoist Center), the left power are committed to form a stable government and fulfill the promises which we made before," the statement added.

KP Sharma Oli is set to become the next prime minister of Nepal with over 50 percent majority clinging to the Left alliance.

Previously, KP Oli held the post of prime minister after the promulgation of the constitution at the time when the Madheshi movement was on the rise.

With Oli set to become the next premier of the nation, people in Nepal expect some differences in the diplomatic policy than that of previous one that favoured China more.

"I expect a policy that will enhance relationship of Nepal with neighbouring countries India and China. The enhanced relationship means working on economic area so that Nepal gets benefitted from both the countries," Chandra Pathak, permanent residence of Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha residing temporarily in Kathmandu told ANI.

"Also, Nepal should always enhance relationship with India because without good relation with India, growth of Nepal is not possible due to the geopolitical situation. But in the name of enhancing relation, Nepal should not bow to any other countries. It should always try to make stand on the issues of country's interest," he added. (ANI)
