Nepal poll body urges govt. to strengthen security prior to polls

Kathmandu [Nepal], December 1 (ANI): The Election Commission of Nepal has urged the government to enhance the security in the country after rise in attacks on candidates prior to second and final phase of parliament and provincial elections.

According to The Himalayan Times, the Election Commission also stressed on the need of creating conducive environment for the voters to cast their votes in a fair, free and fearless manner to exercise their right to vote guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal.

The commission has also called for a security meeting to review the security arrangement prior to the elections

Nepali Congress candidate from Udayapur-2 parliamentary constituency Narayan Bahadur Karki and 6 others were injured in an attack in Dunuwarbeshi area of Udayapur district on Wednesday.

Leaders of various political parties are holding exhaustive election rallies and meetings in favor of their party in different parts of the country as the campaigning for second and final phase of parliament and provincial elections scheduled for December 7 is in full swing.

A 65 percent voter turnout was recorded in the first phase of the elections. (ANI)
