Iranian foreign minister discusses nuclear deal with Russia

Jerusalem [Israel], May 16 (ANI): Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif visited Moscow on Monday to discuss the future of Iran nuclear deal following the withdrawal of the United States from the international treaty.

As reported by CNN, Zarif discussed the nuclear deal, also known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov to ensure that the same remains in its place.

Zarif is further scheduled to conduct a number of international diplomatic meetings to discuss the deal with international leaders.

Earlier he met China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and stressed on the importance of keeping the 2015 accord, which aims at halting Iran's nuclear activities and stimulate the country's economy.

"China will take an objective, fair and responsible attitude, keep communication and cooperation with all parties concerned, and continue to work to maintain the deal," Wang said, adding the agreement was "hard-earned."

Zarif will further meet with the foreign ministers of the three European countries in Brussels to discuss the future of the deal.

Last Wednesday, United States President Donald Trump withdrew from the deal while calling it unfair and warned of severe consequences if Iran resumes its nuclear programme.

Later on Tuesday, it was reported that the European Union is planning to rescue the deal post the US withdrawal from the international treaty. (ANI)
